17th May,2013, a ground breaking ceremony was held to signal the beginning of construction work for the new University of Nairobi Towers.

Chinese firm, China Wu Yi Co. Ltd has won to build the Towers with the project expected to be completed within the next 3 years.The ground breaking ceremony was held at the construction site at the Main Campus and presided over by top University Management led by the Chancellor Dr. Joseph Wanjui. The Towers will be situated in the open space between Gandhi Building and Education Building, just adjacent to the Norfolk Fairmont Hotel and kenya National Theatre.

The Architect for the project is Waweru and Associates who won the project through an Architectural Design Competition in November 2011 in an exercise presided over by an International Jury, comprising various experts.
